Infection season - patient information

sezon infekcyjny

If you have cold symptoms such as runny nose, cough, fever, sore throat, headache, muscle pain, we encourage you to use telemedicine (Telephone Medical Advice, chat with a doctor, telephone advice by appointment):

  • during the teleconsultation, the doctor will determine your treatment, may issue an e-prescription, an e-referral for diagnostic tests and, if your condition requires it, will issue a sick leave.

If you need a face to face appointment to consult the symptoms of a respiratory infection, make an appointment at Medicover Express the same or next day:

  • depending on the symptoms present and your health condition, your doctor will prescribe a rapid test* for influenza, COVID-19, streptococcal tonsillitis or other infections and recommend appropriate treatment.

*The doctor may prescribe the rapid test both during a teleconsultation and during an in-patient visit, choosing the type of test according to the patient's symptoms and clinical condition; the test may be chargeable, depending on the scope of the patient's medical package.

Important – please note:

  • You can book a teleconsultation or a face to face appointment at Medicover Express in the Medicover OnLine app (please select "Internist - flu, cold" in the search engine).
  • Medicover Express appointments are dedicated to patients with symptoms of respiratory tract infections – this is where the medical staff is provided with personal protective equipment, and the work of doctors is supported by nurses who perform the diagnostic tests on the spot, if necessary.
  • By separating visits by patients with symptoms of infection from those with other problems, we prevent the spread of infections.

Medicover co-organizer of the #ODWOLUJE #NIEBLOKUJE campaign

Up to 17 million visits annually go to waste in the healthcare sector due to patients not canceling their appointments. In 2023, Medicover has already recorded 130,000 missed appointments and nearly 180,000 late cancellations, preventing other patients from utilizing them.

Last year, Medicover joined the nationwide campaign #ODWOLUJE #NIEBLOKUJE, in which we raise awareness among our patients about the significant importance of canceling medical consultations they cannot attend. We are committed to ensuring that all patients receive the medical assistance they need as quickly as possible, which is why we continue to support this initiative this year.

The #ODWOLUJE #NIEBLOKUJE campaign, of which we are co-organizers, is a fantastic example of how two sectors - private and public - collaborate to minimize missed appointments. For many years, we have been striving to address this issue in various ways and have achieved positive results. The #ODWOLUJE #NIEBLOKUJE campaign helps us in this endeavor, providing strength and arguments," says Artur Białkowski, Managing Director of the Business Services Division at Medicover. .

We have opened registration for flu vaccinations

We have launched flu vaccination registration. You can already make an appointment for vaccination on the medicover OnLine app.

Why is it advisable to get a flu vaccination?

Another infection season is approaching. The first cases of respiratory infections have recently been appearing earlier than usual. They are often accompanied by coinfections, which lead to a longer and more severe illness. It is important to remember that there are effective ways to prevent infections and to reduce the risk of severe illness and complications. These days, the most efficient method of combating infectious diseases is vaccination.

We encourage all Medicover patients to prepare for the upcoming infection season and get vaccinated against influenza and also against pertussis (whooping cough) and the pneumococcal disease*.

*To register for any vaccination other than that against influenza at Medicover OnLine, select “Vaccinations other than flu” in the search engine and make an “Face to face appointment”.

Flu vaccination:

  • protects you from hospitalisation and medical visits during the infection season;
  • reduces the severity of the symptoms of the disease in people who have contracted it despite vaccination;
  • reduces the time of illness and recovery;
  • is an important preventive tool, especially for people suffering from certain chronic conditions, in particular heart diseases, lung diseases (e.g. COPD) or diabetes, the severity of which increases in the event of contracting influenza;
  • in the case of pregnant women, helps protect the baby from influenza for several months after birth, i.e. during the period when the child is too young to be vaccinated;
  • can also protect those around you who are at higher risk of severe influenza, such as newborns, young children, the elderly and people suffering from certain chronic conditions.

How to schedule an appointment for vaccination?

  1. First, please log in to the Medicover OnLine app.
  2. In the search engine on the home page, select your city and the required service by entering “Adult vaccinations – flu” or “Children vaccinations – flu”.
  3. Go to “Face to face appointment”, select “Flu vaccination” and make an appointment.
